About Trusted Local Cleaners

Trusted Local Cleaners is the only online directory to find members of the National Carpet Cleaners Association (NCCA), the only UK trade association for carpet and upholstery cleaners. All members of the NCCA have undertaken a recognised professional carpet and upholstery cleaning course and reached the required standard in the examination. These courses offer a thorough grounding in all aspects of carpet and upholstery cleaning. This ensures that all our Trusted Local Cleaners have essential knowledge for the safe and effective cleaning of carpets and fabrics.

Alongside recognised training qualifications, all our Trusted Local Cleaners have adequate insurance to cover them in the event of a problem or accident. A Public Liability insurance policy is required, which is standard for companies offering services to the public.

Members are required to abide by the Association’s Code of Practice, which covers such specifics as fair pricing, service, complaints procedures, liability and consumer protection, and is designed to ensure customer satisfaction at all times.

The “TLC Guarantee” is that all the Trusted Local Cleaners listed on our website are trained, insured and professional.

How Do I Find Trusted Local Cleaners?

Using the search form on the home page, select the service you require from the list provided, along with your location. For example, if you need your carpets cleaned and you live in Leicester, select ‘carpet cleaning’ and either put your LE postcode or Leicester as the location. The directory will find all members who provide that service within a 10-mile radius. Browse through each listing to read more about each member. If you have a few members located close to you, we’d recommend contacting 1-3. Just use the online enquiry form to notify each member or take down their phone number to contact them directly.

Choosing Trusted Local Cleaners

Each member's listing will tell you their unique NCCA membership number, NCCA membership level and membership joining date. Our membership levels range from Associate Member (newest members) to Senior Member level.  Companies can progress through the levels of membership by fulfilling additional criteria, such as length of service and further training throughout their membership.

Many members have received 5* reviews on their listings, so you can read what other customers thought of their cleaning experience. Members also have the option to include their website and social media links, so you can also check out reviews across these others platforms too!Find Trusted Local Cleaners

This article will tell you how to spot rogue traders but more importantly, how to find the high quality, reputable businesses.

In these days of social media and online marketing, it can seem easy to find someone to perform jobs like carpet and upholstery cleaning. Unfortunately, it also means that untrained and unprofessional businesses are intent on ripping people off, and can easily get themselves in front of unwitting customers. So how do you spot the rogue traders and the untrained poor quality operators, or more importantly, how do you find the high quality, reputable businesses who will best look after your furnishings?

If it seems too good to be true, it probably is!

If someone is offering to clean your carpets for, say, £15 per room, or £60 for a whole house, what sort of a job do think they can do? They have to run a van, travel to your home, buy and maintain their equipment, buy cleaning products, pay for advertising, training and all the other things it takes to run a business. Then they need to earn enough per hour to make a living.

If prices are too low you need to ask what are they not doing? Cheap shoddy equipment perhaps? Or poor quality products which might cause damage to your belongings? Not bothering to get trained? Or missing out essential steps in the cleaning process to save time meaning poor results? Probably all of these together.

Beware of Bait and Switch

Make sure the advertised prices include everything that should be done for a professional clean. Does the price include essentials like vacuuming before the clean, cleaning products, rinsing grooming and drying, spot and stain removal, moving furniture etc? Advertising prices which you have no intention of charging, then charging far more for “extras” which should be part of the job is called “Bait and Switch” is illegal and a common tactic of rogue traders.

Ask for references

Internet reviews are a good start but it can be easy for rogue traders to fake reviews on social media. Look for plenty of reviews given over months or years, not all in a few weeks, and including some recent ones. These should preferably be on a consumer confidence site such as Trading Standards, the Government approved TrustMark consumer protection website or, of course, the dedicated National Carpet Cleaners Association website directory, Trusted Local Cleaners.

Are they trained?

Rogue traders aren't likely to shout about accreditations and training qualifications they hold. Why not ask to see certificates for professional training or confirmations of memberships. Anyone can buy a machine and call themselves a professional carpet cleaner. Most accredited memberships require completion of training as a basic entry requirement. Make sure whoever you hire really is a professional.

Are they insured?

Ask to see their insurance certificate and make sure it includes “Treatment Risk” or "Items being worked upon". If their insurance policy is "Third Party only" then whatever they are cleaning isn’t covered. Is it worth the risk?

Is there anyone to complain to if you aren’t happy?

Trading Standards have local Buy with Confidence schemes which might give you someone to complain to if you aren’t happy with the service you receive. In the unlikely event you have a problem or complaint against any of our Trusted Local Cleaners, the National Carpet Cleaners Association (NCCA) is able to act as an independent arbitration service.

How to avoid rogue traders & find a professional

Use Trusted Local Cleaners, the only online directory specifically to find trusted, professional carpet & upholstery cleaners local to you. All our Trusted Local Cleaners are members of the National Carpet Cleaners Association (NCCA), the only UK trade association for carpet and upholstery cleaners.

Our members must undertake a professional training course and pass at least one examination. They have to carry the correct insurance and they sign up to the industry’s only Code of Practice covering standards of work, customer satisfaction, complaints procedures and fair pricing.

The featured #TLCofthemonth for May 2018 is Stuarts Carpet & Car Care.

"We have had our carpets cleaned throughout; Sitting Room, Bedroom and Sun Room. We are very impressed with the result and the manner it was carried out. Also a rather special rug purchased some years ago in Marrakesh, which has been restored to its former glory. Would recommend this Company for professionalism and price and most important, outcome."
